Punjab CM Bhagwant Mann and AAP supremo Arvind Kejriwal visited Lovely Professional University in Phagwara today. Here, they laid the foundation stone for the ‘Roshan Punjab’ project. Addressing the gathering, CM Mann stated that the people of Punjab will receive relief from power cuts.
CM Mann stated that the Punjab government has set a lofty goal of constructing new grids, new lines, new transformers, and upgrading old ones, and increasing production capacity, costing ₹5,000 crore. Life without electricity is unimaginable. It is the government’s duty to provide electricity to all three sectors: industry, farms, and homes. He expressed his happiness that significant progress has been made on electricity since the government assumed office. A closed coal mine in Jharkhand was restarted. CM Mann said that previously, we used to hear news of blackouts in Punjab, two thermal plant units shutting down, and coal shortages at thermal plants. Now, the people of Punjab will no longer hear such things because Punjab has a surplus of coal. Due to coal mining, we have a 27-day supply of coal. Previously, there were only two government-owned thermal plants in Punjab. Then, when we learned about the Goindwal thermal plant being sold, we made full preparations and purchased the 540 MW Goindwal thermal plant for Rs 1,080 crore. There is no cheaper deal in the country. He said that a thermal plant worth Rs 5,000 crore has been purchased for Rs 1,080 crore and has been named the Shri Guru Amardas Ji Goindwal Thermal Plant. This is the first time the government is purchasing power from the private sector. Upon coming to power, the government provided 300 units of electricity free of charge. Now, 90 percent of the people in Punjab receive free electricity.
