Phillaur Police Station SHO Bhushan Kumar has been placed on the line in connection with the rape of a minor girl. It is alleged that he told the victim’s mother that he would personally “check” and inform her whether her daughter had been raped. Furthermore, the SHO even attempted to pressure the victim’s mother into calling him to his official residence. After repeated calls, the victim’s husband learned of the incident, and the victim’s family filed a public complaint on Wednesday.
What’s the Matter?
A woman from a village near Phillaur told a press conference that her 14-year-old daughter had gone to a neighbor’s house to take a bath because the tap in their house was out of order. A young man from the neighborhood seized the opportunity to film the incident and later began blackmailing her. On the night of August 23rd, while the daughter was sleeping alone at home, her mother and father heard her screaming. They immediately rushed downstairs and caught the neighbor boy red-handed in their daughter’s room. The incident became the talk of the entire neighborhood, and even the former Sarpanch arrived at the scene. The accused boy’s family arrived the next day, admitting their mistake and stating that their daughter was 18 years old and the victim was 14. They promised to get them married after four years, but the victim’s family refused these proposals.
Police Action and Controversy
The victim’s parents repeatedly approached the police station against the accused, but received no justice. Instead, SHO Bhushan Kumar repeatedly tried to call the mother to meet him alone. Following this, the heads of the Lok Insaaf Manch, Comrade Jarnail and Ram Ji Das, brought the matter to the attention of the SSP, Jalandhar. The SSP ordered an investigation and placed SHO Bhushan Kumar of Phillaur Police Station on the line. Bhushan Kumar defended himself, stating that he had only made the call to involve the woman in the investigation and that the other allegations against him were baseless. Following the investigation, the police filed a rape case against the accused man and took him into police custody.
