The Director General of Police, Punjab, has praised SSP Bhupinder Singh of Ferozepur district after suspending the station house officer (SHO) of Lakhon, Bahiram, and an ASI over the drug issue.
In this regard, social workers questioned why the police administration is being lenient towards officers and employees who fail to curb the ever-increasing crime rate in the areas under the jurisdiction of various police stations and outposts in the district. The police administration’s laxity on the drug issue raises many questions, and even during the War Against Drugs campaign, several cases of drug-related deaths were reported in various locations within a few months. Despite this, the Fazilka district police administration has not held any police officer/employee accountable. Consequently, people demand that the Fazilka district police administration should learn from neighboring districts and take strict action against the erring police officers and officials.
Taking action against the MLAs’ favorite station house officers is a major challenge.
There is widespread discussion in the area that the Fazilka district police administration may consider the above demand from social workers and initiate action against station house officers and employees who are negligent in their duties. But will the Fazilka district police administration be able to take action against the MLAs’ favorite station house officers, or will the MLAs’ favorite station house officers overpower SSP Fazilka Gurmeet Singh? Taking action against them will be a major challenge for the police administration.
