Everything from the offer letter to the tickets was fake.
Kamaljit Singh, owner of Baaz Enterprises, located in Sector 64, Phase 10, Mohali, has been accused of defrauding a Jalandhar youth of ₹1.5 million (approximately $1.5 million) under the pretext of sending him to Canada. The victim has filed a complaint with the Police Commissioner, demanding legal action and a refund. However, the case has been referred to the Anti-Fraud Police.
Chandra Mohan, a band member from Bansa Wala Bazaar, explained that he learned through social media that Baaz Enterprises provides study loans to children and send them to Canada. He then visited the Baaz Enterprises office in Mohali in October 2023. The staff there assured him that the loan would cost ₹15,000, but the entire case would cost ₹1.6 million (approximately $1.6 million).
Chandra Mohan gave his son’s documents and passport to the staff, and at their request, ₹15,000 was deposited into his account. A few days later, the agent, Kamaljit Singh, showed him the offer letter, claiming his work was complete, and demanded ₹1.5 lakh. In December 2023, Chandra Mohan transferred ₹50,000 and then ₹1 lakh to his account.
Furthermore, at the insistence of the Baaz Enterprises staff, he spent ₹5,000 for his son Chiraju’s medical examination, after which he was given an LOA slip. Chandra Mohan stated that the agent also charged him ₹16,000 in embassy fees and later ₹7,000 for biometrics. Meanwhile, the agent also denied the study loan. At Kamaljit Singh’s request, another ₹4 lakh was transferred to his bank account. Chandra Mohan stated that ₹1.5 lakh was gradually taken from him. After repeated requests, Kamaljit Singh gave him an offer letter and arranged for a ticket. He allegedly terminated the offer letter’s validity and then restarted the process, only to be given a fake offer letter and ticket.
When he spoke to Kamaljit, the agent began to procrastinate. When Chander Mohan threatened to file a police complaint, Kamaljit Singh gave him cheques for ₹10 lakh and ₹9 lakh (₹4 lakh as security), which he then dishonored. In August 2025, Kamaljit Singh called Chander Mohan to the Mohali bus stand and promised to return the entire amount, promising in writing to do so by October 10, 2025. However, he subsequently reneged. Finally, Chander Mohan filed a complaint with the Police Commissioner, which has been marked to the Anti-Fraud Office. The victim urged the Police Commissioner to take strict action against the agent and ensure his hard-earned money is returned.
