The Amritsar-Saharsa Garib Rath Express train (number 12204) traveling from Ludhiana to Delhi caught fire near Sirhind railway station on Saturday morning. The train had barely traveled half a kilometer from Sirhind station when passengers noticed smoke coming from one of the coaches. The train was immediately stopped, and railway personnel began rescue operations. According to a local police officer, police and railway teams arrived at the scene as soon as they received the information. Passengers were safely evacuated. They stated that the situation is now completely under control, and all passengers are safe. Railway officials stated that the incident occurred around 7:30 a.m. As soon as the fire was detected, railway employees acted swiftly, evacuating the affected coach, and with the help of fire teams, the fire was brought under control. They stated that the fire was contained to a limited area and was quickly extinguished.
An official railway statement said, “A fire was noticed in a coach of the Amritsar-Saharsa Garib Rath Express (12204) at Sirhind station. Railway officials immediately shifted passengers to other coaches and the fire was extinguished. No passengers were injured. The train will depart for its destination soon.” The cause of the fire is currently being investigated. Railway and police teams are present at the spot and the track is being restored. Preparations are being made to allow passengers to depart the train again after a slight delay.
