The incident occurred on Sunday near the canal in Kalia Colony when Mamta Kumari, a resident of the Kali Mata Temple area on Sodhal Road, was going to perform puja.
According to reports, as soon as Mamta reached the canal, a young man on a scooter approached her from behind and tried to snatch her gold chain. But Mamta did not lose heart; she immediately raised an alarm and grabbed the robber by his collar. People nearby also rushed to the spot and apprehended the accused.
The angry crowd thrashed the robber and tied him up with a rope. Meanwhile, Mamta informed her husband, Hari Lal Yadav, who immediately notified the Police Station 8. The police arrived at the scene and arrested the accused. A large iron weapon was also recovered from him during the search.
The police are interrogating the accused to ascertain whether he is part of a gang. Local residents praised Mamta Kumari’s bravery and presence of mind, saying that she prevented a major crime from taking place.
