The number of dengue patients in the district is increasing day by day. The number of dengue cases has now reached 135, while 9 cases of chikungunya have also been reported. Meanwhile, under the instructions of Civil Surgeon Dr. Balveer Kumar and the leadership of District Epidemiologist Dr. Jagdeep Singh, the Health Department conducted anti-dengue activities throughout the district.
During this drive, anti-larva teams inspected various types of containers such as coolers, tires, broken buckets/plastic containers, disposable cups/plates, trays behind refrigerators, earthen pots, and water bowls for animals/birds for mosquito larvae. Where stagnant water was found, it was drained, and where draining was not possible, larvicide was sprayed. During today’s inspection, survey teams in Hoshiarpur city inspected 2148 houses and other premises, and mosquito larvae were found in 44 locations.
The teams took immediate action at these locations, draining the water and spraying larvicide. Challans (fines) are also being issued to encourage people to responsibly follow dengue prevention guidelines. During this drive, people were made aware that they should clean and dry empty containers or places where water accumulates in their homes, schools, and offices at least once a week. The Aedes mosquito, which spreads dengue and chikungunya, usually breeds in clean water, so cleaning water storage containers is the most effective preventive measure.
