Important news has emerged for common people traveling by government buses in Punjab. Contract worker unions of Punjab Roadways, PunBus, and PRTC have once again prepared to protest against the government. The employees have announced that they will stop bus services after 12 PM on October 31st. This could cause significant inconvenience to passengers.
Union president Jodh Singh has written a letter to the transport department officials, clearly stating that if the department re-issues the tender for including buses under the kilometer scheme on October 31st, all buses will be stopped. The union has been protesting against this scheme for several months.
Allegations of benefiting private companies:
The contract employees say that the government’s intention behind repeatedly issuing tenders under the kilometer scheme is to benefit private companies. The employees stated that the necessary documents for permanent employment have already been submitted to the government, but the negligence of the transport department officials is increasing the resentment among the employees. The employees allege that the government has not yet invited them for any talks.
Due to the union’s protest, the tender has already been canceled twice, but despite this, the repeated issuance of tenders is beyond the employees’ comprehension.
