The Municipal Corporation’s MTP department is always in the news regarding illegal constructions. Social workers and RTI activists frequently question the department’s functioning, alleging that illegal constructions are taking place in the city with their connivance. It is noteworthy that after a long time, social workers and RTI activists have once again approached the corporation regarding the issue of illegal constructions and have mentioned several buildings.
Municipal Corporation Commissioner Bikramjit Singh Shergill has suspended Building Inspector Rohini for negligence of duty following a complaint by Karanveer Singh Walia, a resident of New Pratap Nagar, regarding Rohini’s failure to take appropriate action against the illegal construction of a 5-story building and the resulting cracks in the complainant’s building, which caused damage to the structure. In addition, in the North Zone, the Municipal Corporation Commissioner has assigned additional charge of Sector 1-2 to ATP Kulwant Singh and Building Inspector Kulwinder Kaur to Sector 3-4. Vikas Gautam has been appointed as Building Inspector for Sector 1-2 in the North Zone. In the Central Zone, Kiran Jot Kaur has been given charge of Sector 1-2, Virender Mohan of Sector 2-3, and ATP Manjit Singh of Sector 4.
In the South Zone, Building Inspector Sukhwinder Sharma has been given charge of Sector 1-2, Navjot Kaur of Sector 3-4, in the East Zone, Inspector Sonika Malhotra of Sector 1-2-3-4, in the West Zone, Building Inspector Nitin Dheer of Sector 1-2-3-4, and in the Central Zone, Building Inspector Kiran Jot Kaur has been given charge of Sector-1, Madhavi of Sector 2, Sukhwinder Sharma of Sector 3, and Navjot Kaur Randhawa of Sector 4.
