Acting on a tip-off as part of the ongoing campaign to make Punjab a drug-free state under the directions of Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann, the Amritsar Police Commissionerate has arrested two key operators of two drug supply modules linked to Pakistan-based smugglers, seizing 2.815 kg of methamphetamine (‘ice’). He said the arrested individuals have been identified as Gursewak Singh alias Sewak, a resident of Gharyala village, Tarn Taran district, and Baljit Singh, a resident of Guru Nanakpura, Amritsar. Giving details about these operations, Police Commissioner Amritsar, Gurpreet Singh Bhullar, said that in the first case, acting on specific intelligence, the police set up a checkpoint near Dana Mandi in Amritsar and arrested the accused Gursewak Singh alias Sewak with 40 grams of methamphetamine.
He said that based on the accused’s revelations, a follow-up operation was conducted, resulting in the recovery of another 1.96 kg of ‘ice’ drug. He stated that the arrested accused, Gursewak, a resident of the border area, was in constant contact with Pakistan-based smugglers through virtual platforms and was receiving and delivering consignments himself as per the instructions of his handlers.
