The state is likely to experience colder than usual temperatures this year. Since the beginning of November, a continuous drop in day and night temperatures has been observed due to the activity of Western Disturbances and La Niña. As a result, the cold has intensified during the mornings and nights, and the minimum temperature remains below normal.
According to weather experts, the La Niña effect is a major reason behind the increased cold this year. Its impact is expected to further intensify the cold in Punjab during December. Currently, there is no rain alert for the state in the coming days. However, fog is likely in some districts. The weather will generally remain dry. This is also causing several health problems for many people.
The Meteorological Department predicts that the night temperatures may drop further in the coming days. In districts like Pathankot, Gurdaspur, and Amritsar, the minimum temperature could fall to 6 to 8 degrees Celsius, while in other areas it is expected to remain between 8 and 10 degrees Celsius. Considering this situation, the Meteorological Department has stated that the cold will be felt more intensely than usual in North and West Punjab, while temperatures will continue to drop in other parts as well.
