The Municipal Corporation has taken another significant step regarding the door-to-door waste collection system in the city. The corporation has issued two tenders worth Rs 143 crore, under which a uniform waste collection system will be implemented in all wards falling under the Central, North, Cantt, and West zones. Following this, a uniform user charge will be levied across the entire city. According to the corporation’s plan, the new agency will be responsible for collecting wet and dry waste separately from households for the next three years. In addition, the processing and disposal of the waste will also be the responsibility of these agencies.
According to officials, previously, different rates were fixed for waste collection in different zones, but now uniform rates will be applicable throughout the city. Work on the corporation’s door-to-door collection project is expected to begin from November 13th. In light of potential protests from the union, the corporation has appealed to the public for cooperation. The corporation states that the implementation of the new system will improve the city’s sanitation and enhance cleanliness levels.
