Ludhiana, being a major industrial city of Punjab, is a frequent visitor of businessmen. Due to business activities, people often stay late at night and stay in hotels, dharamshalas, inns, guest houses, PGs, palaces, or OYO rooms in the city. However, it has been observed that most of the owners or managers of these accommodations do not register their establishments as per the law nor do they keep records of the people staying there. This poses a threat to the lives and property of travelers and businessmen staying at such accommodations. Taking serious note of this, Deputy Commissioner of Police (City) Snehdeep Sharma has issued orders using his powers under Section 163 of the Indian Civil Security Code 2023.
He stated that, in order to protect the general public and public safety, it is mandatory for the operators of all hotels, dharamshalas, inns, guest houses, PGs, palaces, and newly constructed establishments within the Ludhiana Police Commissionerate to register their establishments under the Inn Act of 1867. Furthermore, all managers must ensure that complete records of every occupant are carefully maintained. The police administration has clarified that this step is crucial from a security perspective, and strict action will be taken against those who fail to comply.
