Jalandhar Rural Police, Nakodar, have uncovered a racket where children were purchased from poor parents at low prices and sold to needy parents. Angrez Singh, in-charge of the Ugi outpost under the jurisdiction of Sadar Police Station, Nakodar, arrested several people, including children, during a checkpoint. DSP Subdivision Nakodar Sukhpal Singh stated that eight people have been arrested so far, and two more will be arrested soon. A case has been registered against the accused and further investigation has been initiated.
Police have arrested Jagjit Singh of Manjit Nagar, Ludhiana, his mother Ranjit Kaur, and Amarjit Kaur, a resident of Kalan village (Ludhiana). They had purchased the child in an Innova car from Moga and intended to sell it to someone in Kala Sanghia. The DSP stated that the accused intended to sell the child for ₹4 lakh (400,000). Eight people have been arrested so far in this case. Police stated that Baljit Singh, son of Chhinder Pal, has been arrested. The accused is the child’s father and had told his wife that the child was dead.
The child was then sold to an Asha worker named Rajni and a woman named Gagandeep, a Class IV employee at the Moga court. Both women were in contact with Kulwinder Kaur, alias Mani, who had taken ₹5,000 in this case. Kulwinder Kaur had then asked Gagandeep and Rajni to sell the child to Ranjit Kaur. They stated that they had sold the child a month and a half ago. The DSP stated that Manpreet, a resident of Ludhiana, and Shamsher, a resident of Bathinda, are absconding. Manpreet, wife of Diljeet, a resident of Ludhiana, had sold a girl child to Ranjeet Kaur.
Ranjeet Kaur had given the girl child back to Manpreet. Ranjeet Kaur has emerged as the main culprit in this case. A woman named Reena would contact parents at IVF centers and if parents were unable to have a child, she would contact them from there and discuss the sale and purchase of the child. Police said that raids are being conducted to arrest both of them and they will be arrested soon. They said that all these accused have been produced in the court and 3 days’ police remand has been taken, during which more important revelations are expected.
