Despite spending ₹650 crore, sewage water is still being directly discharged into the Budha Nullah at several locations. This revelation came during a meeting convened by the District Magistrate (DC) and Municipal Corporation Commissioner on Friday, where Sant Seechewal was also present. A press note issued in this regard quoted officials as stating that several points directly discharging sewage into the Budha Nullah will be closed by December.
Although municipal officials have repeatedly claimed that sewage water is not directly discharged into the Budha Nullah, despite the recent installation of two disposal points near the Gaushala crematorium, the flow of sewage and chemical-laden water directly into the Budha Nullah has not stopped. Similarly, cow dung from dairies located on Haibowal and Tajpur Road is also continuously being discharged directly into the Budha Nullah. To this end, dairy owners have been warned of increased strictness if they do not stop dumping cow dung into the Old Drain.
Sewerage Board officials will face action
Sewerage Board officials attending the meeting were reprimanded and warned of action if the STP or ETP plants are not operated properly. Previously, contrary to the claims of the Sewerage Board officials, Sant Seechewal had twice recorded videos of the disposal motors failing to function properly at a point near the Gaushala crematorium, and sent them to the Chief Minister and the Governor.
