Exercising the powers conferred under Section 163 of the Indian Civil Security Code, 2023, District Magistrate Dalwinderjit Singh has issued orders to ensure the peaceful conduct of the upcoming council/panchayat committee elections in Amritsar district. Under the Model Code of Conduct, the carrying of firearms and weapons (agricultural implements, sharp weapons such as axes, sickles, and hatchets) within the revenue limits will be strictly prohibited.
The order issued states that the State Election Commission, Punjab has issued instructions vide letter no. SEC/ZAP/PS/2025/9038 dated 28.11.2025 that as per the notification number (SEC/SAP/MCC/2025/8737) dated 20.11.2025 issued by them, the schedule of elections has been issued as per the Ardas Election Code of Conduct applicable for the Zila Parishad/Panchayat Samiti General Elections 2025 across Punjab, under which the date of Zila Parishad/Panchayat Samiti elections across Punjab has been fixed as 14.12.2025.
Therefore, the Election Commissioner has issued instructions through letter no. SEC/ZP/PS/2025/9038 dated 28.11.2025 that till the completion of the election process, in order to maintain law and order in public interest and to ensure smooth and peaceful conduct of the elections, carrying of firearms and weapons should be prohibited except for exemptions granted to appropriate persons under some special reason. This order will not apply to on-duty Army personnel, para-military forces, uniformed police personnel, but security personnel of election candidates will not be able to carry weapons inside the polling stations. This order will remain in force till the end of the Model Code of Conduct today.
