In a heart-wrenching case from the village of Sohal Jagir, a court has sentenced Kulwinder Kaur—a mother who murdered her own six-year-old son—to life imprisonment. The court also imposed a fine of ₹50,000 on the accused. The incident dates back to June 8, 2020. According to reports, the deceased, Arshpreet Singh, was extremely close to his grandmother, Charanjit Kaur, and would often insist on sleeping alongside her.
This issue frequently became a source of conflict within the household. On the night of the incident, around 9:30 PM, Arshpreet was once again insisting on sleeping with his grandparents. During the ensuing argument, tensions escalated to such an extent that the accused mother, in a fit of rage, attacked the child with a knife. Upon hearing the child’s screams, family members rushed into the room to find him lying on the bed in a critically injured state, while the mother had fled the scene. The family members immediately rushed him to the hospital, but he succumbed to his injuries on the way.
Following the incident, the police registered a case and arrested the accused. During the trial, based on witness testimonies and the evidence presented, the court found Kulwinder Kaur guilty. Describing the case as extremely grave and sensitive, the court observed that severe punishment is imperative for such crimes to send a strong deterrent message to society.
