The trail regarding the grenade attack that took place outside the BJP office in Chandigarh appears to lead back to Morinda, a tehsil in the Rupnagar district. According to reports, while searching for the perpetrators of this attack, the Chandigarh Police arrived at Ratangarh village in Morinda, where they even cordoned off the village in an attempt to arrest two individuals.
Although it has been reported that the police have rounded up two individuals, this could not be officially confirmed until late in the evening. It is pertinent to note, however, that the police have indeed taken the father of one of these two individuals into custody for questioning. According to the information received, the police raided the homes of the suspects—Gurtej Singh and Amanpreet Singh, both residents of Ratangarh village—in connection with the attack.
During the raid, the police also seized certain suspicious items from Amanpreet Singh’s residence. On the other hand, when senior police officials were approached for comment regarding this matter, they stated that the case is currently being investigated by high-level investigative agencies of both the Chandigarh and Punjab Police, and that they themselves possessed no specific information regarding the incident. However, it has also been reported that these individuals had fled the scene prior to the police raid; Gurtej Singh’s mother, for instance, stated that her son has been residing in Chandigarh for the past four years and does not visit them at their home in the village.
She further explained that Gurtej Singh works as a driver in Chandigarh and that she has absolutely no knowledge regarding any activities he may have been involved in. Similarly, Amanpreet Singh’s wife stated that her husband works as a delivery rider in Chandigarh and that she, too, is completely unaware of any activities he may have undertaken. She added that it was only when the police arrived at their doorstep that she was informed that he had allegedly committed a wrongdoing.
