Panic erupted at Dera Darbar Sahib in Tarn Taran on Thursday afternoon when an unidentified man suddenly jumped into the holy sarovar (sacred pool) after listening to the Kirtan in the Diwan Hall. According to eyewitnesses, the man was initially listening to the Kirtan; shortly thereafter, he walked towards the sarovar and leaped into the water. Devotees present nearby attempted to save him, but their efforts proved unsuccessful.
Upon being informed of the incident, the management summoned divers to the scene. The divers arrived after a considerable delay and initiated a search operation; however, no trace of the individual could be found by late evening. According to the Gurdwara Management Committee, the search operation within the sarovar remains ongoing. Meanwhile, devotees present at the site have raised questions regarding the management’s arrangements, asking why a rescue team was not pre-positioned despite the large crowds. Satpal Singh, the Head Granthi of the Gurdwara Sahib, stated that the man’s identity has not yet been established and that he had jumped into the sarovar without warning.
