BJP National General Secretary Tarun Chugh launched a scathing attack on the Congress-led (INDIA) alliance and the Aam Aadmi Party, stating that the events that unfolded in Parliament on April 16 and 17 constituted a blatant betrayal of the country’s approximately 700 million women. He asserted that this was not merely an act of opposition to a bill, but rather a conspiracy to deprive women of their constitutional rights.
Chugh remarked that the *Nari Shakti Vandan Adhiniyam* (Women’s Reservation Bill), introduced under the leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, represents a historic step toward granting women 33 percent reservation. However, when the opportunity arose to implement this right, the Congress and its allies resorted to making excuses to obstruct it. The opposition, he added, has once again demonstrated that it stands against women’s empowerment.
Specifically targeting the 13 Members of Parliament (MPs) from Punjab, Chugh stated that these representatives have betrayed the mothers, sisters, and daughters of their own state. He further asserted that the confusion being sown by the opposition regarding the delimitation process is entirely false and misleading. He clarified that delimitation is a constitutional process, and without it, the effective implementation of women’s reservation is not possible. The opposition, he alleged, is deliberately delaying the realization of women’s rights by manufacturing technical excuses.
Chugh concluded by noting that the Congress party has a history of depriving women of basic amenities—be it access to toilets, bank accounts, or healthcare facilities. He declared that the women of the country are now fully aware of the situation and will deliver their verdict on this act of betrayal in the upcoming elections.
