A deeply tragic and shocking incident that shatters the sanctity of family bonds has come to light in Mahavir Colony (Bhamian Khurd), falling under the jurisdiction of the city’s Jamalpur police station. Driven to despair by the daily harassment, abusive behavior, and constant death threats from his own two sons, a helpless 70-year-old father ended his life by hanging himself at home. Based on the statement of the deceased’s wife, the police have registered a serious case of abetment to suicide against both sons and have launched a search for them.
The deceased has been identified as Gurdev Singh (70). In a tearful statement to the police, his wife, Kiran Devi, explained that Gurdev Singh had two sons—Lavpreet Singh and Harpreet Singh—from his first marriage. They previously lived on the first floor of their parents’ house. According to Kiran Devi, the family was deeply distressed by the sons’ vices, misconduct, and wrongful activities; consequently, a fed-up Gurdev Singh had evicted them from the home. However, even after being disowned, the brothers remained defiant. The accused sons—currently residing in Baba Jeevan Singh Nagar (Patti), Tarn Taran—returned and began exerting terrifying pressure on their elderly parents to vacate the house.
The aggrieved woman stated that the accused sons crossed all limits by openly threatening to set the house on fire and burn the parents alive. The elderly father could not bear the terrifying threats and severe mental harassment inflicted upon him by his own sons in his twilight years. Overwhelmed by this deep shock, mental stress, and the anguish of public disgrace, Gurdev Singh hanged himself from a roof beam in his own house yesterday, June 6. Upon receiving information about the incident, the Jamalpur police immediately arrived at the scene, took possession of the body, and initiated proceedings. Acting on a complaint filed by Kiran Devi, the police have registered a case against the accused brothers, Lavpreet Singh and Harpreet Singh, and raids are being conducted to apprehend them.
