On Tuesday evening, two unidentified bike-borne assailants opened fire at ‘Libas’, a readymade clothing showroom located on Malwal Road. The attackers fired a shot and fled the scene. The bullet struck the showroom’s glass frontage, shattering it. Fortunately, no employees or customers inside the showroom were injured during the incident.
The incident created an atmosphere of panic in the area. Hearing the sound of gunfire, nearby shopkeepers and passersby gathered at the spot. Upon receiving the information, senior police officers and local police personnel arrived at the scene to inspect the site. The police have collected crucial evidence from the location and secured footage from nearby CCTV cameras. Vehicle checks have been initiated following the setting up of checkpoints.
SP (D) Manjit Singh, who arrived at the scene, stated that the preliminary investigation revealed two youths arrived on a motorcycle, fired outside the showroom, and fled. Special teams have been constituted to identify and arrest the accused. Vehicle inspections have also begun at various entry and exit points of the city. Showroom owner Sukhvinder Singh stated that he has no enmity with anyone and possesses no information regarding the identity of the attackers. According to him, the incident occurred suddenly, and the accused fled within seconds of carrying out the attack.
The police are investigating the matter from all angles. Initially, the incident is being viewed as a possible attempt to spread panic or issue a threat; however, police officials state that the actual motive will only be revealed once the investigation is complete.
