Political tensions rise in Chandigarh; Union Minister Dharmendra Pradhan faces protests over paper leak issue; Congress demands resignation

Date:

Union Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan arrived in Chandigarh on Wednesday. He is scheduled to reach Tagore Theatre in Sector 18 around 12:30 PM to participate as the keynote speaker in an event organized by the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) to commemorate the Emergency.

Congress and Youth Congress workers have launched protests regarding Dharmendra Pradhan’s visit to Chandigarh. Activists took to the streets carrying black flags and raised slogans against the Education Minister. The Congress party is holding Pradhan responsible for the paper leak incidents and is demanding his resignation. In view of the protests, the police administration has put stringent security arrangements in place. Many Congress and Youth Congress workers were stopped in the Sector 17 area itself to prevent them from reaching Tagore Theatre. During this time, protesters raised loud slogans against the central government and the Education Minister.

Congress leaders state that the futures of lakhs of youths across the country have been affected by paper leak incidents in various competitive examinations. The party has been continuously protesting over this issue in different parts of Chandigarh for the past several days.

Meanwhile, preparations for the BJP’s event at Tagore Theatre have been completed. The event will feature a discussion describing the Emergency as a “dark chapter” in Indian democracy. In his address, Union Minister Dharmendra Pradhan will share his views on the events that took place during the Emergency, the impact on democratic institutions, and the importance of protecting the Constitution.

The entire area has been brought under a security cordon ahead of Dharmendra Pradhan’s arrival at Tagore Theatre. A large police force has been deployed, and surveillance around the venue has been intensified. Congress workers are preparing to register their protest by waving black flags upon his arrival.
