There is welcome news for the residents of Chandigarh. The Meteorological Department has predicted relief from the prevailing heat and humidity. According to the department, the weather pattern is likely to shift starting July 1, bringing the possibility of rain accompanied by strong winds. Meteorological data indicates that Chandigarh has recorded only 40.1 mm of rainfall since June 1, which is 73.2 percent below normal.
People Await the First Monsoon Rain
The heat persists due to the continued lack of rainfall, and residents are eagerly awaiting the first good spell of monsoon rain. The Meteorological Centre states that there will be no significant change in the weather until June 30; while light cloud cover is expected, the likelihood of heavy rain remains low. However, signs point to a change in weather from July 1, with the possibility of thunderstorms, strong winds reaching speeds of 40 to 50 km/h, and rainfall in some areas.
The department reported that good rainfall is likely at several locations across Punjab, Haryana, and Chandigarh between July 2 and July 4. A ‘Yellow Alert’ has been issued for certain areas regarding heavy rain, thunderstorms, and strong winds during this period. A drop in maximum temperatures is also expected following the rainfall. Over the next few days, the maximum temperature in Chandigarh is forecast to range between 37 and 39 degrees Celsius. According to the Meteorological Department, light rain and strong winds were observed in parts of Punjab and Haryana on Monday, while heatwave conditions were recorded in some areas of Haryana and isolated pockets of Punjab.
