Reckless and high-speed driving by a car driver near the Bhairomunna Cut on Chandigarh Road—falling under the jurisdiction of the Koomkalan Police Station—resulted in the death of a motorcyclist and left a woman and another motorcyclist injured. In her statement to the Koomkalan police, Harjinder Kaur—a resident of Mehlon village, Ludhiana—recounted that on July 1, she and her husband were traveling by motorcycle from Kuhara towards Bhairomunna.
As they began to turn from the Bhairomunna Cut towards the village, a speeding Creta car struck their motorcycle due to the driver’s negligence. Both husband and wife fell, and her husband, Avtar Singh, died on the spot. Harjinder Kaur stated that during the incident, the Creta driver also hit another motorcyclist, causing him serious injuries, while the car driver fled the scene, abandoning the vehicle. The Koomkalan police have registered a case against the Creta driver, Amritveer Singh (son of Lakkha Singh, a resident of Barmalipur village, Doraha, Ludhiana), and have launched a search for him. The police have impounded the Creta car and handed over the body to the family following a post-mortem examination.
