Residents in the Salem Tabri police station area are living in fear due to the menace of thieves, yet incidents of theft show no signs of abating. Thieves frequently break the locks of shops and homes to commit thefts in the locality. Ashok Pandey, who runs a grocery store in Sarup Nagar, reported that attempts have been made to break into his shop three times in the past month alone, though, fortunately, the actual theft of goods was averted each time.
Pandey recounted that two days ago, robbers arriving on an Activa scooter and a motorcycle broke the shop’s shutter locks; while they managed to break the locks, a woman standing on the roof of the adjacent house recorded a video of them on her mobile phone and raised an alarm. Consequently, the thieves fled the scene without stealing anything.
Pandey noted that his shop’s locks had also been broken last month, and another attempt was made just last week. He mentioned that while the locks were broken two days ago, the merchandise inside remained safe. The thieves had their faces covered with cloth. Pandey appealed to police officials to increase night patrols—specifically between midnight and 6 AM—to curb these thefts. He suggested that if police vehicles patrolled the area at regular intervals during the night, it would instill fear in the thieves and significantly reduce the incidence of theft.
