Farmers from Punjab, currently camped at the Chandigarh border, staged a show of strength on Friday by marching along both sides of the road. Farmers affiliated with 32 different unions have been camping there since September 1st, with the protest scheduled to continue until September 7th. On Thursday, farmer leader Harvinder Singh Lakhowal had stated that neither the state government nor the central government had budged regarding the ongoing protest, which has been underway for three days.
Farmer leaders had announced that if the government took no action on their demands by 2 PM on Friday, they would announce the next phase of their struggle after 5 PM. Lakhowal had urged Punjab’s farmers to remain prepared for the agitation.
While the protest is currently scheduled to last until September 7th, it could be extended if the government fails to address their demands. Resentment towards the government is evident in the voice of every farmer present at the site.
