A case has been registered at the Hajipur police station against an unidentified individual for contracting a child marriage with a 14-year-old minor girl. Providing details on the matter, Hajipur SHO Harprem Singh stated that a written complaint had been received from the Hajipur Child Development Project Officer (CDPO). This complaint was prepared based on an inquiry and instructions issued by the Child Development Project Officer, Hoshiarpur.
According to the complaint, a 14-year-old minor girl from a village falling under the jurisdiction of the Hajipur block and police station was married off to an unknown person—an act that constitutes a direct violation of the law prohibiting child marriage. The SHO stated that, treating the complaint from the CDPO with seriousness, the police immediately registered a case against the unidentified individual under relevant legal provisions. The police have initiated further investigation into the matter and are examining the roles of other individuals responsible for the child marriage
