A weather system forming over the Bay of Bengal and an active Western Disturbance have completely altered the city’s weather. Clouds that gathered on Thursday night poured heavily throughout Friday, with the city recording 35mm of rainfall in just 14 hours. This brought relief to residents who had been struggling with sunny skies and humid heat over the past few days.
Dark clouds dominated the sky from Friday morning onwards. The city was drenched by a mix of light drizzles and heavy downpours. Water accumulated on the roads, and the weather turned pleasant. Cool winds accompanying the rain caused the temperature to drop by two degrees. The Meteorological Department has forecast continued rainfall for the next two to three days. While the interplay between clouds and sunshine will persist, rainfall activity is expected to intensify after sunset, bringing a mix of light and heavy showers to different areas.
Weather expert Dr. SN Sunil Pandey explained that although the monsoon withdrawal process has begun, a weather system active over the Bay of Bengal has once again shifted weather patterns across North India. A spell of rain is expected to continue across Uttar Pradesh, including Kanpur, for the coming days.
The monsoon is likely to withdraw from UP by the first week of October, but another spell of rain—which began over the last 48 hours—is still to come. Light to moderate rainfall is expected to continue for the next three days.
