Nishant Kumar—son of former Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar and a minister in the Bihar government—is set to hold a major conference in Varanasi, marking his first such event outside his home state. This move is being viewed as an attempt by the Janata Dal (United) to establish its presence in Uttar Pradesh and signal its intent to make a strong bid in the upcoming assembly elections.
Nishant was in Kashi (Varanasi) on Sunday, where he spoke to journalists at the Circuit House. He stated that the goal is to strengthen the alliance by winning the maximum number of seats in Uttar Pradesh, just as the party has done in Bihar. He affirmed that the JD(U) alliance would continue in UP and that party workers would throw their full weight into the upcoming elections. He announced that a state executive conference would be held on October 25 at Karauta, near Lohta. Senior leaders, including National Executive President Sanjay Jha, along with party workers from across the state, are expected to attend. This conference will serve as the launchpad for the campaign leading up to the 2027 assembly elections. He urged party workers to start preparing immediately to ensure the event’s success. Responding to a question, he expressed his pleasure at meeting office-bearers and workers from neighboring districts and called upon all JD(U) members to work vigorously to strengthen both the organization and the alliance. It is worth noting that Nitish Kumar had also previously held a large public meeting in Pindra before an earlier election.
