A sit-in protest by border residents against the ban on the movement of four-wheeled vehicles via the Inarwa route on the Indo-Nepal border continued for the second consecutive day on Monday.
Following protests that lasted until late Sunday evening, people gathered at the border as early as 6:00 AM on Monday to resume the sit-in. The protesters demanded the restoration of four-wheeler and three-wheeler traffic at the Inarwa border, similar to the arrangements at the Thori and Bhiswa borders.
Residents state that the restrictions on movement have increased difficulties for both the general public and business owners in the border region. Currently, only pedestrians are permitted to cross the border; the movement of bicycles, motorcycles, and other vehicles remains prohibited. The protesters also demanded the establishment of a ‘Chhoti Bhansar’ (small customs/transit point) facility at the Inarwa border. They declared that the sit-in would continue indefinitely until their demands are addressed and the issue is resolved.
A Nepali police outpost is located near the protest site. According to the protesters, the Nepali police have remained mere spectators despite the ongoing demonstration. The public has urged the administration to take immediate action to resolve the issue regarding movement. Participants in the sit-in included Islam Miyan, Alihussain Miyan, Lalbahadur Raut, Alihak Gaddi, Surendra Sah, Aftab Hawari, Bharat Singh Chhetri, Avadhesh Patel, Lalu Hawari, Hasmullah Miyan, Nejamuddin Mansuri, Omprakash, and Dilshad Alam, among others.
