A farmer died after getting caught in a rotavator while ploughing a field in Padri Lalpur village, under the Saadh police station area, on Wednesday morning. The tractor driver fled the scene after the accident. The farmer’s body was found lying in the field; one of his legs had been completely severed, and there were multiple injury marks on his body. The Saadh police have sent the body for a post-mortem examination.
The deceased, 55-year-old Anil Sahu, was a farmer who cultivated crops on a sharecropping basis. He had arrived at the field around 5:00 AM on Wednesday to oversee the ploughing. The tractor driver was operating the rotavator, and Anil was sitting on the tractor’s mudguard right next to him. He fell off due to a jolt and came into contact with the rotavator. In the accident, one of his legs was severed at the hip, and he sustained severe injuries across his body, including his head. He died a painful death on the spot. The driver, identified as Surendra, fled with the tractor after the incident.
Other villagers who arrived shortly after discovered the body and informed the police and the family. Anil is survived by his wife Sanno, two sons (Rishi and Vinod), and two married daughters (Goldi and Roli). The family is devastated and inconsolable. According to Saadh Station House Officer (SHO) KK Mishra, the body is being sent for a post-mortem, and further action will be taken after a formal complaint is registered.
