A major controversy has erupted over the Punjab Provincial Civil Services (PCS) examination, with the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) raising serious allegations of irregularities in the recruitment process. The party has demanded a Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) probe, claiming that the examination results raise several questions about transparency and fairness.
According to the allegations raised by the BJP, nearly 45 per cent of candidates appearing from a particular examination room reportedly cleared the examination. The party has questioned how such a high success rate was possible and whether the examination process was conducted fairly.
The BJP has further alleged that candidates who were reportedly absent from the examination were also shown as selected. These claims have raised additional questions about the examination records, attendance sheets and the process through which candidates were shortlisted.
The party has demanded a thorough investigation into the entire recruitment process and called for the CBI to examine the allegations independently. It has argued that an impartial investigation is necessary to establish whether the reported irregularities were the result of administrative lapses or deliberate malpractice.
The controversy has also brought the Punjab Public Service Commission’s role under scrutiny. Candidates preparing for competitive examinations expect the recruitment system to operate on clear, transparent and equal standards. Any doubts regarding the selection process can affect their confidence in the examination system.
The BJP has urged the authorities to investigate the reported selection patterns, verify the attendance records and examine the eligibility and performance details of the shortlisted candidates.
However, these allegations have not yet been established as facts, and the official response from the concerned authorities will be important.
The central question remains: How could nearly 45 per cent of candidates from one examination room reportedly qualify, and is there any evidence to support the claim that absent candidates were also selected?
A detailed and impartial investigation could help establish the facts and determine whether any action is required to protect the credibility of Punjab’s PCS recruitment process.
