Film actress and BJP’s Mandi Lok Sabha member Kangana Ranaut’s film ‘Emergency’ was not released in Punjab’s cinemas on Friday due to the opposition of Shiromani Gurdwara Parbandhak Committee (SGPC) and other Sikh organizations. However, in the state capital Chandigarh, the film’s shows were filled with up to fifty percent audience.
SGPC members gathered outside cinemas
On Friday morning, SGPC members and Sikh organizations gathered outside cinemas across the state and started protesting against Kangana’s film. In view of the protest, cinema owners also did not show the film. However, many viewers had also made advance booking to watch the film.
Activists associated with Shiromani Akali Dal (Amritsar), who were protesting against the film ‘Emergency’ outside Trillion Mall in Amritsar, even raised slogans of Khalistan Zindabad. In view of the protest, a large number of police were also deployed outside the cinemas.
SGPC secretary called Kangana mad
SGPC secretary Pratap Singh called Kangana mad and said that she has been speaking against farmers earlier as well. Alleged that the film is based on emergency, but under a conspiracy, the character of Jarnail Singh Bhindranwala has been shown wrongly.
An attempt has been made to justify the attack on Sri Akal Takht Sahib and Sri Harimandir Sahib in 1984 in the film, which is being opposed. SGPC chief Harjinder Singh Dhami had already written a letter to Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann demanding a ban on the film. He also warned that if the film is released, the situation may worsen.
A high-ranking official said that Dhami’s letter has been sent to the Chief Minister, but there is no order yet. Cinema owners themselves have decided not to release the film. The censor board has the right to ban films.
The government has no such policy. If a film becomes a law and order issue, it is banned. The screening of Dera Sacha Sauda chief’s films was also stopped in Punjab.
Kangana said – this is harassment of art and artists
Actress Kangana posted on Internet Media X and said – Reports are coming from many cities of Punjab that these people are not allowing Emergency to be screened. This is complete harassment of art and artists.
She said that I respect all religions very much and after studying and growing up in Chandigarh, I have closely seen and followed Sikhism. This is completely false and propaganda to spoil my image and harm my film.
