The purpose of this decision is to promote advanced medical training and meet the increasing demand for specialist doctors. These seats have been included in the Senior Resident (Academic) category to promote clinical training and research.
Both patients and the institute will benefit
The increase in new seats will improve the availability of super specialty services in PGI. This will provide better medical services to the patients and will make access to treatment of serious diseases easier. The PGI administration says that this decision will not only strengthen the education sector but patients will also get high quality medical services.

Along with increasing the seats of DM and MCH, regular faculty and non-faculty posts have also been approved in PGI. Apart from this, approval has been given for appointment of faculty for satellite centers Firozpur and Una. This will fill the shortage of doctors and patients will get better health facilities.
