Chandigarh Smart City Limited (CSCL) will be closed on 20 March. After this, out of the 36 projects made under this scheme, 32 projects will be handed over to the Municipal Corporation. While 4 big projects will be given to different departments. After the approval of the CSCL board, the concerned departments will take over their work after 20 March.
Meanwhile, Senior Deputy Mayor of Chandigarh Municipal Corporation Jasvir Singh Bunty said that the projects in which work is yet to be done, how will they be taken care of in future. The Municipal Corporation already does not have money. In such a situation, the Chandigarh administration should come forward. So that the Municipal Corporation can get help, otherwise the burden on the Municipal Corporation will increase even more.

Rs 850 crore spent on Smart City
Rs 850 crore was spent on the entire project.
More than 600 crore was spent only on building sewage treatment (STP) and control center (ICCC).
The rest of the money was spent on other development works of the city.
The Command and Control Center (ICCC) will remain with the Municipal Corporation till 2027
Earlier ICCC was to run under the Smart City Scheme till 2027, but now the Municipal Corporation will look after it.
After this the IT department will handle it.
The deadline of the Smart City Scheme extended, but not the budget
The central government extended the end date of the Smart City Scheme from 30 June 2024 to 31 March 2025.
No money was given for this in the budget of 2025-26.
The scheme was started in 2015
Chandigarh was included in the Smart City Mission in 2016.
Under this, work was done to improve traffic, cleanliness, water, waste management and digital services.
This responsibility will now be given to the Municipal Corporation and other departments.
