Chandigarh Municipal Corporation is facing financial crisis due to which all the development works of the city are also stopped and the upcoming General House Meeting is going to be held in a different environment this time. Senior Deputy Mayor of Municipal Corporation Jasvir Singh Bunty has written a letter to the Corporation Commissioner demanding that instead of passing new proposals in the meeting to be held on 30th April, the deteriorating financial condition of the corporation should be discussed seriously.
This demand of Jasvir Bunty has created a stir in the Municipal Corporation. Now all eyes are on the meeting of 30th April, where it will be decided whether any concrete decision is taken to improve the deteriorating financial condition of the corporation or not.
Jasvir Bunty said in the letter that proposals worth crores of rupees were passed in the last few months, but due to severe shortage of funds with the corporation, tenders could not be issued on them till date. He raised the question that when money is not available then there is no meaning in passing new proposals worth crores.
Bunty said that in the current financial year, the corporation had received more funds than before, but the entire budget was spent in just six months. Now the situation is such that not only development work has come to a standstill, but the jobs of employees working for years are also in danger.
The senior deputy mayor warned that if the fund mismanagement is not investigated in time and concrete steps are not taken, then in the coming time the corporation may have to be closed.
He suggested that all the councillors and officials of the corporation should call a special meeting and do a thorough review of fund expenditure, misuse and financial management. Also, in future the fund should be used on the basis of transparency and priority so that the financial position of the corporation can be strengthened again.
