Jalandhar | The issue of Himachal’s entry in the ongoing dispute between Punjab-Haryana government on the issue of water from Bhakra Canal is gaining momentum. There are different governments in all three states and all three have given their different arguments. Regarding this, MLA from Jalandhar Cantt constituency and former Indian hockey team player Pargat Singh has suggested ending this dispute under the riparian law.
Congress MLA from Jalandhar Cantt constituency Pargat Singh said that the dispute over water sharing between Punjab, Himachal Pradesh, Haryana and Rajasthan should be resolved under the riparian law. We believe that both Punjab and Himachal are riparian states.
MLA said – Rajasthan and Haryana are not riparian
MLA Pargat Singh said – Himachal cannot say that this is only their right, Punjab also has it. However, I agree that Rajasthan and Haryana are not riparian and no one allows them to be so. But this injustice has been done to Punjab. According to Sections 78, 79, 80 of the State Reorganization Act 1956, Punjab suffered losses due to this and Punjab’s water went to Rajasthan and Haryana.
What Himachal is saying is correct, they may have problems with Rajasthan and Haryana, but there is no scope for this with Punjab. The stand taken by the Himachal government is absolutely correct. But the government is pushing with Punjab.
