Panchkula. Anurag Rastogi, a 1990 batch IAS officer, will continue to be the Chief Secretary of Haryana. The central government on Friday approved the proposal of the state government and gave Anurag Rastogi a one-year extension.
Anurag Rastogi’s birth date is June 21 and he will complete 60 years of age. The central government and the state government have given him the gift of extension on his 60th birth anniversary. Rastogi, who is going to retire on June 30, has got a one-year extension 10 days ago.
The committee of Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Home Minister Amit Shah has earlier given extension to the Chief Secretaries of Odisha and Himachal Pradesh. Rastogi also has the additional charge of Additional Chief Secretary of the Finance Department.
Originally from Moradabad in Uttar Pradesh, Anurag has also been the ACS of the Finance Department during the time of former Chief Minister Manohar Lal. After getting approval from the Centre, the Haryana government issued Anurag Rastogi’s new appointment orders on Friday. He is the fifth Chief Secretary to be given extension.
It was first started during the tenure of former Chief Minister Chaudhary Bansi Lal. The Bansi Lal government had extended the service of the then Chief Secretary MC Gupta for six months from August 1996 to January 1997.
After this, the Congress government led by Bhupendra Singh Hooda had given extension to three IAS officers. In 2013, PK Chaudhary, who was the Chief Secretary in the Hooda government, was given extension for six months, Shakuntala Jakhu for two months and SC Chaudhary for two months.
The wait of IAS Sudhir Rajpal and Dr. Sumita Mishra has been extended. After Anurag Rastogi getting extension, the senior most IAS officers of the 1990 batch, Sudhir Rajpal and Dr. Sumita Mishra, will have to wait longer to become Chief Secretaries. Additional Chief Secretary of Health and Women and Child Development Department Sudhir Rajpal will retire on November 30 next year and Dr. Sumita Mishra on January 1, 2027. Anand Mohan Sharan, IAS of the same batch and Additional Chief Secretary of Environment, Forest and Wildlife Department will retire on August 31 this year. Similarly, IAS Raja Shekhar Vundru of the same batch is to retire on July 31 next year.
