The Common Eligibility Test (CET) policy implemented for the recruitment of Group-C and Group-D posts in Haryana has been challenged in the Punjab and Haryana High Court.
The petitioners have demanded that a separate CET exam be conducted for technical posts, arguing that it is unfair to include candidates having technical qualifications and experience in the same examination along with candidates from other subjects.
The petitioners argued in the court that the current CET policy of the government is arbitrary, illogical and inconsistent. They say that posts in various technical departments like health, agriculture, engineering, electricity, mechanical, computer and other fields require specialist knowledge and experience, but the government has included general candidates in these posts by implementing a common CET. This is affecting the opportunities of specialist candidates.
The petition also mentions that on December 31, 2024, the Haryana government issued a notification making common CET mandatory for technical posts as well. Various candidates had raised objections against this, but the policy was implemented without considering their objections. The petitioners have demanded the cancellation of this policy and conducting a separate eligibility test for technical posts. During the hearing of the case, the government said that they need time to prepare a detailed reply on the issues related to this policy. The court has given time to the government and fixed the date of next hearing as 21 August 2025.
