The Punjab Vigilance Bureau, as part of its massive campaign against corruption in the state, arrested ASI Satnam Singh posted at Police Station Islamabad, Amritsar red handed while accepting Rs 20,000 as the first installment of bribe. A spokesperson of the Vigilance Bureau said that the accused had demanded bribe from complainant Inderjit Singh resident of Bhai Manj Road, Amritsar. Complainant Inderjit Singh said that his close friend Paras Mehta is a financial advisor who invested the money of a person named Sunil Kumar in the share market. Due to the fall in the market, Sunil Kumar suffered a loss of Rs 2,00,000.
After this, Sunil Kumar called Paras Mehta to his house and got him to sign 4 blank cheques and also took an affidavit of Rs 6,00,000 from him. After this, Sunil Kumar lodged a complaint of fraud against Paras Mehta at Police Station Islamabad. On this, Paras Mehta also lodged a complaint against Sunil Kumar in Commissionerate Amritsar.
The case was handed over to ASI Satnam Singh for investigation of the complaint lodged by Sunil Kumar. ASI contacted Paras Mehta and told him that he will get the complaint marked and demanded a bribe of Rs. 1,00,000 for settling the case. He asked him to immediately pay the first installment of Rs. 20,000.
The complainant did not want to give bribe for the right and proper work of his friend. Therefore, he along with Paras Mehta reported the entire matter to DSP, Vigilance Bureau Unit, Amritsar. After recording the statement of the complainant in Vigilance Bureau Unit, Amritsar, the accused was caught red handed while taking the first installment of Rs. 20,000 in the presence of government witness. A case has been registered against the accused in Police Station Vigilance Bureau, Range Amritsar. Investigation of this case is going on and the accused ASI has been arrested. will be produced in the court.
