Food safety teams of the local health department on Wednesday shut down a soya chaap manufacturing unit in Lohara, Ludhiana for violating hygiene norms and seized 125 kg of paneer from a dairy in Chet Singh Nagar. The operation began with an early morning check post on Hambran Road where officials stopped milk haulers and collected four milk samples for quality check.
The team then inspected a dairy in Chet Singh Nagar where 125 kg of paneer was seized due to quality concerns. Samples of paneer and ghee were also taken for laboratory testing. Also, a mozzarella cheese manufacturing unit was inspected where samples of mozzarella cheese and ghee were taken.
Officials said the soya chaap manufacturing unit in Lohara was operating in extremely unhygienic and pathetic conditions. The plant lacked the necessary RO water plant, due to which the manufacturing environment was posing a serious threat to public health. A challan was issued, manufacturing equipment was confiscated and the unit was ordered to shut down operations. Also, about 1.25 quintals of soya chaap was destroyed.
District Health Officer Dr Amarjit Kaur said, “These inspections are extremely necessary to prevent adulteration and enforce hygiene standards in food establishments. We will continue to take strict action against those who endanger public health.”
