In the historic town of Talwandi Sabo, the Municipal Council today demolished temporary shops that had been encroaching on the roadside for years, from Nishan-e-Khalsa Chowk to Gilan Wale Khoo, and cleared the way for road construction by removing illegal encroachments like street vendors etc. in the name of beautification.
During this period, the Municipal Council team, led by JE Davinder Sharma, arrived to remove the illegal encroachments. Tehsildar Talwandi Sabo acted as the duty magistrate, and DSP Rajesh Snehi was present with a heavy police force to monitor the security arrangements. At Nishan-e-Khalsa Chowk, administrative officials asked shopkeepers to remove signs from their sheds, while some permanent structures were demolished with the help of a JCB.
JE He stated that an open road, similar to Heritage Street, is to be constructed beyond Nishan-e-Khalsa Chowk for pilgrims visiting Takht Sri Damdama Sahib, to avoid traffic jams. For this purpose, illegal encroachments have been removed. A large number of city residents welcomed the anti-encroachment drive.
On the other hand, the team appealed to shopkeepers and residents on Nut Road to remove encroachments in front of their homes or shops, giving them two days’ time, after which they were warned of action. Harjeet Singh Sarhan, son of Municipal Council President Kulveer Kaur Sarhan, stated that people are filing complaints with the Municipal Council to remove illegal encroachments throughout the city.
