Danger is once again looming over Punjab. Following the latest IMD forecast, additional water has been released from the Ranjit Sagar Dam into the Ravi River. Chief engineers and technical experts from the Water Resources Department have met with officials from the Indian Meteorological Department to review the situation.
According to experts, the first week of October could be difficult for Punjab. Rainfall is expected during this period, to the extent never recorded in the last 80 decades. According to the Meteorological Department, the rainy season may begin on the night of October 4th, and a yellow alert has been issued for October 5th, which is likely to cause rain in all parts of Punjab except for 2-3 districts (Patiala area). An orange alert will be issued on October 6th, predicting heavy rainfall. The yellow and orange alerts will be in effect in the metropolitan city of Jalandhar.
Appeals to the public
In such circumstances, the administration has urged people living in low-lying areas to remain vigilant and has begun reviewing all flood control measures, as flood-like conditions could recur after the water is released.
Warning for these districts
According to the Meteorological Department, heavy rain is expected in Pathankot, Amritsar, Tarn Taran, Ropar, Jalandhar, Ludhiana, Patiala, Moga, Mansa, Gurdaspur, Barnala, and Bathinda in Punjab.
