The state’s Public Works Department is playing a vital role in strengthening the road network and accelerating the pace of development in Punjab. Cabinet Minister Harbhajan Singh E.T.O., while providing information on the development work being carried out by the Public Works Department under various schemes in the state, said that under the NABARD scheme, 279.64 kilometers of roads and 8 bridges were completed during the financial year 2024-25, at a cost of ₹104.28 crore.
During the financial year 2025-26, ₹192 crore is planned to be spent on the construction of 125 kilometers of roads. Under this scheme, construction of 14.50 kilometers of roads has been completed, at a cost of ₹18.13 crore.
He informed that during the financial year 2024-25, under item number 5054 RB-10 roads, construction of 781 kilometers of roads has been completed, with a total expenditure of ₹503.02 crore. During the financial year 2025-26, ₹663 crore is planned for the construction of 840 kilometers of roads, of which 342 kilometers have been completed. ₹212 crore has already been spent under this scheme. The Cabinet Minister also informed that under item number 5054, construction of 10 bridges has been completed during the financial year 2024-25, with a total expenditure of ₹48.29 crore. During the financial year 2025-26, ₹155 crore is planned for the construction of 31 bridges, with ₹16.39 crore already spent under this scheme.
