To address the problem of sewage water flowing into various drains within Gurdaspur city, the Municipal Council has purchased land for a project worth ₹80 crore. As part of this effort, the Municipal Council registered 6 acres of land today and made payment to its owner.
Giving information, Advocate Baljit Singh Pahra, President of the Municipal Council of Gurdaspur, stated that the issue of sewage treatment in Gurdaspur city had been a serious and concerning issue. Consequently, efforts had been underway for a long time to clean all the city’s sewage water and reuse it for other purposes.
He stated that a project was developed for this purpose some time ago, but it faced numerous obstacles. But now, having overcome all obstacles, the Municipal Council has purchased 6 acres of land near Pind Babri and Sidhwan. The land has been registered in the Municipal Council’s name after paying the owner ₹3.21 crore. He stated that a sewage treatment plant will be installed on this land at a cost of ₹80 crore. The complete file is ready, and work will begin soon.
He stated that previously, all of Gurdaspur city’s sewage was flowing directly into various drains, contaminating the drains themselves. The groundwater in the surrounding areas was becoming contaminated, causing numerous problems for residents. However, with the installation of the treatment plant, the entire city’s water will be purified in this plant. Afterward, the water will be used for irrigation purposes and then discharged into the drains, preventing any potential damage.
