People traveling the 29 km stretch from Kang Sahib in Jalandhar district to Kartarpur will now be able to benefit significantly from the new highway connectivity. Work on the Amritsar-Delhi-Katra Expressway, being built under the Bharatmala Project, is in its final stages in several states and districts, and is scheduled to begin in the New Year. The Nakodar Highway will be directly connected to the Delhi-Katra Expressway. This will significantly reduce the distance to Amritsar, making the journey time just one and a half hours. If someone travels from Delhi, Patiala, or Ludhiana via Phillaur to Kang Sahib and takes the Amritsar route, they will save 75 km. This line connects to Airport Road, making it easier for people to reach the airport and Sri Darbar Sahib in Amritsar.
No need to travel from Phillaur to Jalandhar
There will no longer be a need to travel via Phillaur to Jalandhar. The new route will connect directly to the Nakodar Highway via Kang Sahib. This will also reduce traffic congestion.
80% work completed, entire project ready by 2026
The National Highway Authority stated that approximately 80% of the highway work has been completed. It is expected that the project will be fully operational by 2026.
