Following Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann’s directives, the Punjab Police on Tuesday conducted a cordon and search operation (CASO) at identified drug hotspots across the state as part of the “War Against Drugs” campaign. This operation marks the 262nd day of intensified action against drugs. Under the direction of DGP Gaurav Yadav, the operation was conducted simultaneously in all 28 police districts. The DGP stated that during the day-long operation, police teams raided 391 drug hotspots across the state. 67 cases were registered and 79 accused were arrested. Police recovered 4.3 kg of heroin, 971 narcotic pills/capsules, and drug money worth ₹3.16 lakh from the accused. Special DGP (Law and Order) Arpit Shukla said that over 400 police teams, comprising over 3,000 policemen, under the supervision of 79 gazetted officers, were deployed in this operation.
He said that under the ‘War Against Drugs’ campaign launched on March 1, 2025, 24,809 FIRs have been registered across Punjab so far and 36,901 drug smugglers have been arrested. The police have so far recovered a total of 1,604 kg of heroin, 557 kg of opium, 263 quintals of poppy husk, 529 kg of marijuana, 41.39 lakh narcotic pills/capsules, 14 kg of ‘ice’ and drug money worth Rs 14.42 crore.
