Delivering a major blow to a narco-terrorist network, the Amritsar unit of the State Special Operation Cell (SSOC) of Punjab’s Counter-Intelligence wing has busted a terrorist module. During this operation, the police arrested two accused—Sarwan Singh (a resident of Ava village) and Shamsher Singh (a resident of Ikhtiarnagar village)—near Mahal village in Amritsar, seizing 64.62 kilograms of heroin in the process. The value of this heroin in the international market is estimated to be approximately ₹450 crore. This information was shared by Punjab DGP Gaurav Yadav.
The DGP stated that preliminary investigations have revealed that the arrested accused were in contact with foreign handlers and smugglers based in Pakistan. This network was involved in cross-border drug trafficking. An FIR regarding this matter has been registered at the State Special Operation Cell Police Station in Amritsar, and an investigation is currently underway to unearth the entire network.
