In a tragic road accident near the District Council office in Fatehgarh Sahib, a government teacher returning from census duty and her son sustained serious injuries. Following the accident, passersby immediately rushed both victims to the Civil Hospital, where they are currently undergoing treatment.
According to reports, the injured teacher, Paramjit Kaur, is currently posted at the Government Elementary School in the village of Manupur. It is reported that after completing her census duty, she was riding a motorcycle back to her home in the village of Buladi Kalan, accompanied by her son, Deshant. The injured teacher and her son stated that as they were returning from Sirhind and approached the vicinity of the District Council office, a speeding auto-rickshaw violently collided with their motorcycle. The impact was so severe that both lost control of the motorcycle and were thrown a considerable distance onto the road. Both mother and son sustained serious injuries in the accident.
**Bystanders Rush Victims to Hospital via Ambulance**
Immediately after the incident, people present at the scene attended to the victims and, with the help of an ambulance, transported them to the Civil Hospital in Fatehgarh Sahib. Doctors at the hospital have commenced treatment for both patients. Upon receiving news of the accident, family members and members of the teaching community also rushed to the hospital.
Upon learning of the incident, Satwinder Singh Chahal, a prominent leader of the Government Teachers Union, arrived at the hospital with his colleagues to inquire about the condition of the injured. During this visit, union leaders demanded that the Punjab government and the local administration bear the entire cost of treatment for the teacher—who fell victim to an accident while on duty—and her son, ensuring that both receive free medical care.
**Prior Request Made for Duty Assignment in Nearby Village**
Union leader Satwinder Singh Chahal also raised questions regarding the administration’s functioning. He stated that the teacher had previously submitted a written request to the department asking that her census duty be assigned to a nearby village; however, despite this request, she was assigned duty in a distant area. The union alleges that the administration disregarded her circumstances, forcing her to undertake a long commute—a factor that ultimately contributed to this accident. The teachers’ union has demanded a high-level inquiry into the entire matter. Union leaders assert that, with a view to ensuring the safety and well-being of employees in the future, the duty allocation process must be reformed so that no other employee has to face such difficulties.
